Your photos are yours. Here's how Retina works.
Your photos, your rights
Uploading to Retina doesn't transfer any copyright to us, and we make no ownership claim over your photos. Copyright stays with the author. We process photos only to make your album work — storing, displaying and sharing them. Please upload only content you have the right to share, and respect the privacy of people in your photos.
Share your link thoughtfully
Anyone with the link can open your album and pass the link on. We ask search engines not to index albums, but that isn't access protection. The Edit link also lets its holder change and delete the album; keep it to yourself. You can't currently revoke access for a particular link holder.
Originals keep their embedded metadata (EXIF), which may include GPS location. If you don't want to share it, remove it from your photos before uploading.
How long your album stays
You'll see the expiry in your album. Editing or adding photos doesn't extend it. After expiry, the gallery stops displaying, but files aren't deleted immediately, and direct links to them may still work. Downloaded copies and copies in browser caches may remain even after deletion. Deleted albums can't be restored, and expiry can't currently be extended.
What happens to data
We store photos and album information to run the service. If you enter an email to receive your links or contact us, we use it for delivery or a reply. We also keep technical sending records, measure how Retina is used and monitor errors so we can improve it.
We use AWS (hosting, storage and sending emails), Google (contact mail and fonts), Umami (usage analytics) and Sentry (errors). These services may process data outside the EU.
Get in touch
A question, harmful content or a request about your data? Email hello@retina.gallery. For a specific album, include its viewing link; please don't send the Edit link. We'll handle it personally.
